Director and Artist Aušra Bagočiūnaitė Paukštienė, a representative of the “Artist's theatre”, who in her work searches for modernity in the oldest traditions, is well-known to the audience of the Theatre Lėlė for a number of performances such as “Clouds”, “Flower Stories”, etc. In the performance “Riddle(s)”, she takes upon the task of introducing once again riddles that have lost their relevance, using for this purpose an attractive interactive form of visual performance, symbols, and Lithuanian folk wisdom. Aušra Bagočiūnaitė Paukštienė creates the performance by looking through the prism of feeling the beauty of nature and the world, play, paradox and the magic of everyday life.
We invite our audience to experience the mysterious world of riddles in which the small Lithuanian folklore, mythology and motifs are intertwined, playfully presented in the language of metaphors and images. According to the Director of the play, “those images are often fantastic, related to unexpected collating of phenomena and objects. These riddles asked by the actors reveal the coded worldview and wisdom of our ancestors. After all, in ancient times, the ritual telling of riddles or proverbs could be not only a game, a form of competition, a demonstration of wisdom and dexterity, but also a matter of life or death.”
